I don't think the Governor has any special perogative to crown a winner in a primary does he? Rendell's reputation clearly exceeds his performance.
This is exactly the same problem we had in California and to a certain extent, still do. The corrupt old guard gets gerrymandered seats and locks up the political process. At least in California we had a corrupt majority. It looks like you have a very determined corrupt minority that is damned determined to keep it that way.
A closed back room deal process hurts everybody. One of the most profound roles the blogosphere can play from here on out is transparency. The more open the process is, the more progressive Democrats will benefit.
Remember, Rendell also stepped up as Bush's stooge to privatize Social Security.
Rendell annointing Casey is enough for me to support the Real Democrat.
They don't get that the primary process is democratic. They don't get that the grassroots wants a vehicle for two-way communication. And they don't get yet that their attempts to subvert the democratic process will come back to haunt their candidate of choice.

Also- have you contacted the national DNC yet? They may be helpful, esp. with Dean as Chair. Isn't it for episodes like this why Dean was elected Chair (by everyone except the PA dem party)?
