that Casey (or others) had something to do with spiking any mention of a legitimate primary contender.  IF such dishoesty actually happened and you're apologizing for it... yeah, I'd see why you'd become unpopular.  Resorting to lying de-legitimizes the candidate and the party machinery.  

That said: within-the-rules "gaming" is reasonable.  In a Darwinistic sort of way it might actually be necessary... if nothing else so the loop-holes are found and closed.

Dishonesty though? Not so.
